Our Story

Catalyst was originally established as Waveney Counselling Service (WCS) in 1990, a charity based in Lowestoft.

The centre was initially developed as a branch of Ipswich Concern Counselling Centre, an accredited affiliate of The Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF).

In 1994/5 Waveney Counselling Service became an independent WPF affiliate in its own right. This continued until the WPF network closed in 2013.

In 2013 the charity running the centre closed and a number of senior members of the organisation set up Catalyst Counselling CIC (a social enterprise) to continue the work as a not-for-profit company.

Over the years the organisation has provided counselling and psychotherapy for many in the Waveney and Great Yarmouth areas. This has included Wellbeing and IAPT related work and contracts for the NHS, local councils and businesses.

In addition to providing counselling services, we also provide training for therapists to clinical diploma level (BPC Approved), continuing professional development and have staged regional conferences

We are members of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) - No. 101953.
